Every dog has tiny sacs located on either side of their anus. They produce a fluid that smells awful and is typically expressed when defecating. However, many dogs struggle with expression, resulting in fluid build-up, discomfort, and possible infection.

Signs your dog needs this service include scooting, licking, discomfort or difficulty defecating, discomfort when sitting, swelling around the anus, and if you notice a foul fishy odor.

All dogs are different, so there is no definitive answer. Dogs needing this service should have it done every 1 - 3 months.

The grooming practice of gland expression is achieved by squeezing both sides of the anus to express the fluid. This can cause trauma to the body, false expressions, and internal leakage. That’s why we’ve partnered with a registered veterinary technician to properly express anal glands internally.
