Our Story

Before Le Pawsh became the Bay Area's holistic grooming salon, it was a dream Shelby and Brandon weren't sure they could pull off: a space that felt luxurious instead of rushed, that put skill ahead of volume, that took dog health seriously, and that paid its team what their work was actually worth — everything the big corporate grooming chains weren't. They wanted it to have real personality, be cleaner than anywhere else, feel relaxing for clients and staff alike, and reflect how much they genuinely love dogs and the place they hold in people's lives.

Shelby spent the first part of her career at PetSmart, where she learned the basics of grooming. The pay model there rewarded speed, but she committed to technique and quality anyway, and her client following grew because of it. Eventually, burnout caught up with her, and she left for a lead groomer position at a local shop instead. Even with her experience, she ran into the same wall everywhere: salons run by people who'd never groomed a dog themselves didn't understand what it actually took to run one well. From the uninspired corporate chains to small businesses with a grooming room bolted on, nobody seemed to care about the people who'd built their careers around this work.

One warm summer evening, Shelby and Brandon were out walking when an idea stopped them both in their tracks: what if they just opened their own salon? Neither of them thought it would be easy, but Shelby was confident — she'd spent years learning exactly what she wanted a salon to be, and exactly what she didn't. In 2021, they launched Le Pawsh from a booth rental at another shop. They built a website, designed a logo, made it official with the state, and watched Shelby's following keep growing until they needed to bring on bathers just to keep up. After two years, the booth had done what it needed to do, and they started looking for what came next.

They searched Fremont and the surrounding area for a space that reflected what they wanted Le Pawsh to be, and eventually found a vacant shell on Washington Blvd in Ohlone Village. They signed the lease and got to work. The space came together as three rooms — reception, grooming, and bathing/drying — with walls built to spec, plumbing installed, floors laid, and workstations, tables, and tubs sourced to fit a full grooming team. They painted it Le Pawsh green, and even before it had the spirit it has today, you could see hints of what it would become in the front desk and the pink couch sitting in front of what's now the salon's signature wall.

The original empty shell before Le Transformation

On September 6th, 2023 — a month after opening the doors — Le Pawsh hosted a ribbon-cutting with the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, and Shelby and Brandon got to meet the mayor of Fremont. Champagne flowed, and it felt like everything they'd worked toward.

Leading up to the event, Shelby felt unwell, and Brandon chalked it up to nerves—the storefront opening, the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and everything Le Pawsh was now demanding. On the day of the event, they decided a written speech would be a good idea. Brandon went to the front and began writing a speech to deliver in front of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce. This was interrupted by Shelby revealing a positive pregnancy test—no speech was written.

From there, they kept sourcing the pieces that make Le Pawsh feel like Le Pawsh—the front desk, the end tables and lamps, the artwork on every wall, the custom Polaroid frame. Piece by piece, it came to life.

That identity runs through every corner of the salon, front to back. Shelby and Brandon wanted the ornate French-Victorian language of the space to come through —not just for clients, but for the team, because a workspace that feels comfortable and inspiring is one where people actually want to be creative.

Since opening, Le Pawsh has faced stressful months and several setbacks, including days with only a couple of clients, failed booking systems, and even “dog covid,” which was sweeping the nation—all while Shelby was pregnant. In November of 2024, one of the hoses in the bathing area burst overnight, flooding the entire salon from front to back. The following months were filled with tearing up the floor, cutting the walls, dealing with insurance, and more stress that pushed them to their limits.

Through it all, the mission hasn't changed: elevate the perception of dog grooming as an art, celebrate how beautiful our clients' dogs are, and help them be healthier, inside and out, through holistic practices. Watching a dog strut around in one of our haircuts still makes us proud every time — it's poetry in motion. And like all art, it fades — which just means we get to do it all again the next time your dog needs us.

Le Pawsh exists because of clients who keep rebooking and choosing this lifestyle for their dogs, and because of the team that makes it all worth doing.
